Comic Con 2013

I had never been to Comic Con before, and always fancied going, so when my lovely Lew♥ asked me if I wanted to go, obviously I said yes.
We debated for a while what cosplay we should go as, and decided on Finn and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time.

Princess Bubblegum and Finn

These were our awesome outfits. I like to carry around lots of extra things I don't need, so I needed to make myself a bag and thought this Peppermint Butler bag did the job nicely.I also customised some shoes to make my outfit complete.

Finn, B.M.O and Princess Bubblegum
Lew got us fast track tickets, so luckily we weren't queuing long, which is a good job as it was a very hot day and we didn't have suncream on.
We bumped into our pal B.M.O too!

Adventure Time Travelling with Finn and Princess Bubblegum

Once we got ourselves inside, we were overwhelmed by how many stalls there were. So much fun stuff to look at!
We had our photo taken in the DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies, it cost £5 and you got yourself a printout in a little cardboard sleeve. Some of the proceeds went towards a doggie  home for unwanted pets ♥
Check out Bane and Batman in the background!
OMG
We found this super awesome kawaii stall, Tofu Cute, which entertained me for a while, I'm a sucker for anything with a cute face. You can check out their online shop here :)

Nom, nom, nom.
How awesome are these cupcakes made by Emerald City Cupcakes! I had to get a box, they tasted as delicious as they look. You can check out their website here :)

We had a good wander round, and spent a few pennies on old PS1 games. Don't kid yourself, if you ever go take plenty of spends with you.
The best part of the whole day were the costumes! We saw some incredible cosplay. We bumped into a few other Finn's and Princess Bubblegum's. We had lots of kids asking to have their photo taken with us, which was very sweet. My personal favourite were the T-1000 and Lara Croft.
This was brilliant, two people dressed as the AT-AT from the Star Wars films.

We had such a fun day and are excited about next years Comic Con, and already thinking about what to dress up as.

D.I.Y: Adventure Time BMO Nails

So this is the first DIY post, hope you enjoy it.
Everyone loves the super adorable BMO from Adventure Time, so why not follow this tutorial to give yourself some cute BMO nails.
All you need is:

  • Clear nail varnish
  • Sharpie marker pen
  • 4 colours (shown below)

Before you start, give your hands a pamper. Soak in warm soapy water, trim and file your nails, and apply a handcream. Its also best to apply a base coat (clear nail varnish) first, as it prevents staining on your nails.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Science Facts Thursday: Skin

This week we take a look at the largest organ in the human body. No, not the brain, but skin! would you believe it?!
We are covered head to toe in skin, it protects our other vital organs, and helps keep everything in.

We have two main layers of skin, the epidermis and dermis.  The epidermis is what we see on the outside. Under the dermis is a layer of fat cells called the subcutaneous layer, this layer of fat helps to keep us warm.
Sloth here is demonstrating one way how our body keeps warm, by shivering. Our muscles jerk to produce heat.

Melanin also absorbs the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, which is why people with fair skin burn more easily than people with darker skin tones. This doesn't mean those with a darker complexion won't burn, so always make sure you apply a suitable suncream.

Here is a super summer song, apply suncream before listening.

Science Facts Thursday: Oh My Molar!

Oh my molar, it's science facts Thursday! ♥

Continuing the anatomy theme this week with teeth!

A set of teeth is called a 'dentition'.
There are 4 main types of tooth in the permanent adult set, each tooth has its own job to do when it comes to nomming your food

A typical tooth has two main parts. The tooth that can be seen above the gum line is called the crown. Each tooth is anchored into the jaw bone by its root/s.

So there you have it, teeth. Make sure you look after yours, brush twice daily.
And if you ever wondered how astronauts brushed their teeth in space, watch this video:

Science Facts Thursday: Why So Humerus?

Its Science facts Thursday ♥

The human ribcage.

This week we are keeping the Anatomy theme going, with a look at our bones.
The adult human body is made up of approximately 206 bones! Wowzers, that's a fair few. We are born with near to 300, but as we grow up, some of our bones fuse together.
Here is a diagram to show where the main bones are located in your body.

Here is a look at the skeletal structure in a sloth, see how it differs to the human skeletal structure.

The bones in our body have 6 main functions:

The six main bone functions.
They sure work hard to keep us functioning, so make sure you look after your bones. Always wear padding when playing sports. I once attempted roller derby, and ended up with concussion, and that was with a helmet!
Eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of calcium. Dark leafy greens, cheese and almonds are rich in calcium.
Why so humerus?

Enjoy this song by The Delta Rhythm Boys. Bones, Bones, bones. And don't forget to pop back next week for more science facts.

Science Facts Thursday: The Human Anatomy

Apologies for the slightly delayed science facts Thursday post this week, we have had a few technical difficulties in the Cosmos and Crayons head office.

This week, The Human Anatomy.
Ever wondered how our body functions? It's pretty amazing, we are full of organs that are responsible for different jobs, to keep our body in working order.
Organs not drawn to scale.
Our organs work in harmony with each other to keep us alive. Check out what our organs have to say about the job they do:

Remember, we are only given one body, so make sure you look after it.
